Why Living Waters?

On Sunday 21st July 2019 we named our church “Living Waters Lynton United Reformed Church” or, more simply,  “Living Waters Lynton”.

The background to giving our church a name comes from prophecies that have been given to our Church:

Digging the Ditches (Jules D 22 Jan 2017)

"Between top and bottom of the valley there are ditches.  For example, Ladywell Stream is culverted and overflows when blocked. The Lord showed Jules that these ditches are full up and need to be dug out – then the Holy Spirit can come in. Acknowledge, be glad and rejoice for the Lord sees the big picture (Jeremiah 29:11). We need to participate with Him in the Kingdom of God.  We have to do the possible, the digging – He will do the impossible.  Then green shoots will appear."

Spiritual Hub (Philip Y 25 March 2017)

“The church is a spiritual hub of what God wants to do here in Lynton.”

Untapped Wells (Amanda T Mar 2017)

"Each person is an untapped oil well, that when oil (Holy Spirit) is struck, gushes forth and keeps on going."  This also reminded us of Artesian Wells, when water gushes up from the ground.

Spiritual Boulders (Jan V Oct 2017)

"Spiritual boulders will be pushed away by Holy Spirit."

The Church Meeting in autumn 2018 decided that “Living Waters Lynton” helps us focus on Jesus as the source of life-giving water.  The name was voted for unanimously by members.

The readings we focused on in the morning service on 21st July were Jeremiah 2:1-13 particularly v13

'My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.'

and John 4:13-14:

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Jules D received another word from the Lord based on 2 Kings 3:16-17 on that Sunday morning:

“This is what the Lord says: I will fill this valley with pools of water. For this is what the Lord says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink."
